Overview

Product video
The Load Balancer Enterprise ADC provides advanced Layer 4/7 load balancing, automatically distributing incoming application traffic across EC2 instances either in a single Availability Zone, or across multiple Zones. Traffic can be distributed on the internal Amazon network (reducing bandwidth costs) or to any accessible internet address.
Dual AZ mode enables an HA pair of load balancer instances to be split between different AZ's, further increasing system resilience. Full support for Service Discovery, including integration with AWS Auto Scaling which ensures that servers or containers are automatically added to the load balanced cluster as backend capacity is increased to meet inbound traffic demands.
Support for TCP and UDP enables load balancing of virtually any protocol. SSL termination and re-encryption - coupled with a built-in, OWASP top 10 compliant WAF - enables you to create a secure, robust interface for your infrastructure. URL re-writing / content switching can be used to direct traffic based on defined rules.
Advanced, customizable health checks ensure detection of unhealthy instances within a pool and automatically reroutes traffic to healthy instances. This great product comes fully-featured, enabling all features and full scalability - and either 4Gbps or 20Gbps throughput, depending on the license you install.

64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
New Features & Improvements
- DNS support for Layer 7: Hostnames may be used as the address for a Layer 7 Real Server. HAProxy is now made aware of changes made to the DNS Settings via the WebUI.
- SSH Root Access: Configuring root SSH access via the WebUI on AWS is now possible to facilitate HA pairing on that platform.
- Update Check: An online update check is made immediately after running initial setup so that the result is immediately available when logging into the WebUI for the first time.
- Setup CLI: The initial setup program lbsetup (and its alias lb_net_setup.php) now accept named arguments which allow the user to pass all the data that they can interactive-mode.
Bug Fixes
- GSLB: The GSLB service now checks for and starts all missing, required services on reload instead of requiring the user to restart the GSLB service manually the first time they configure the GSLB service.
- WebUI Accounts: Passwords for WebUI accounts are now synchronised in both directions on pairing appliances. Nodes will now keep their existing passwords in all situations, previously passwords from the secondary node would overwrite those on the primary node in the case of a conflict.
- AWS HA Failover: Local modifications to the contents of the azhaFailover script will be preserved across upgrades. The script is now included in backups and Technical Support Downloads.
- WebUI Styling: Fixed styling issues which resulted in non-purple title-bars for some modals.
- WebUI Styling: Fixed styling issues on the SSL Certificates page.
- WebUI Styling: Fixed styling issues where the Freetype field in the Edit ACL modal was unhelpfully small.
- PFX Certificates: It is now possible to upload a PFX certificate with a space in its name.
- Bonded Interface Restore: Previously restoring to/from a configuration that used bonded interfaces resulted in a running configuration that might not match the on-disk configuration, this is no longer the case.
- SNMP Engine ID: Some appliance images shipped with an SNMP Engine ID pre-configured. Restoring the appliance to factory defaults now clears the SNMP Engine ID.
Security Updates
- SSH Forwarding Mitigation: All forwarding methods are now disabled by default to mitigate CVE-2025-32728.

To access this product, use a browser to view the administration page at https://<instance IP address>:9443 replacing the <instance IP address> with the actual IP address of the running EC2 instance. Your username is 'loadbalancer' and the password is the instance ID. To access this product via the CLI, using your prefered SSH client you can authenticate using the username 'lbuser' and the SSH key specified in the AWS console during the deployment.
For full functionality, the load balancer should be launched with an IAM role configured. Please see our quick start guide (https://pdfs.loadbalancer.org/quickstartguideEntAWSv8.pdf ) for more information or launch using the cloud formation template.

Simple and powerful
Their support is excellent—they reply quickly and are very knowledgeable. We also deployed the appliance via a CloudFormation template in AWS, and the process was very easy.
Setup of new virtual services is also very easy. I especially like the clone option, which makes it simple to add new ports based on existing configurations.
I also like the logic of how it recognises that the backend server is the same, even across multiple ports, and offers to disable all ports for that backend server—this is very helpful during maintenance.
