    Overview

    Play video

Coder delivers self-hosted cloud development environments, provisioned as code and ready from day one. Developers and agents get instant access to pre-deployed workspaces without local setup or delays. Coder runs in your own AWS environment, or in air-gapped configurations when required, so you stay in control without compromising on speed, flexibility, or security. Each workspace includes the tools, libraries, and infrastructure you need, minus the complexity of local setups.

    Highlights

    • Accelerate onboarding: Cut onboarding time with automated provisioning and prebuilt environments, no local setup required. Coder uses Terraform templates to define consistent, reproducible dev environments for developers and their agents.
    • Secure source code: Keep source code off local machines entirely. Coder is self-hosted, which means all the development happens in your cloud environments under your control.
    • Deploy AI agents with confidence: Run AI coding agents securely inside governed cloud environments. Coder gives you full control over compute, access, and context without exposing sensitive systems.

Coder v2.32.4 - EKS Container Deployment

    Supported services: Learn more
    • Amazon EKS
    Container image

Containers are lightweight, portable execution environments that wrap server application software in a filesystem that includes everything it needs to run. Container applications run on supported container runtimes and orchestration services, such as Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) or Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS). Both eliminate the need for you to install and operate your own container orchestration software by managing and scheduling containers on a scalable cluster of virtual machines.

Simplifies Remote Development with Some Limitations

    Reviewed on May 12, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I like how Coder is open source, and the simplicity of the product. This simplicity is crucial for us, given our regulatory environment that doesn't always allow the use of the latest features. The agility of the Coder team in their development is also commendable. I enjoy the community; it's nice having an informal line to the Coder team. The installation of Coder is pretty simple and makes our work easy. The product is very easy to work with, and developers can figure out things on their own, which is always good. Coder helps us reduce the friction our developers experience during development and centralizes our various development environments. Managing workspaces is a plus, and it makes onboarding new staff much easier.
What do you dislike about the product?
The big thing that doesn't work for us is the forcing of "Workspace Sharing", with no option to disable or restrict it without a premium license is a problem for us, and our security teams. Perhaps there could be a bit more information about disaster recovery and restoration guidance, but we understand that is really up to orgs to implement.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coder reduces developer friction, centralizes development environments, and eases onboarding for new staff, crucial for our security-restricted local environment.

What do you like best about the product?
I use Coder to run AI agents at scale, and I find it incredibly useful that Coder enables me to run multiple agents at once on an easy GUI screen. I like how easy it is to replace AI LLMs in Coder, which saves a lot of time for me. The initial setup was very easy, taking less than a day to be fully in production.
What do you dislike about the product?
the price is little bit expensive
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coder enables me to run multiple agents at once in an easy GUI screen and replace AI LLM efficiently, saving a lot of time for me.

Boosts Developer Productivity with Strong Security and Infrastructure Control

    Reviewed on May 08, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
The biggest upsides of using Coder are improved developer productivity, stronger security, and better control over infrastructure. Because development environments can run inside a company’s own cloud or Kubernetes setup, organizations can keep their source code and data within their existing security boundaries. It also fits well with modern DevOps practices such as Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and automated provisioning through tools like Terraform and Kubernetes.
What do you dislike about the product?
One downside of Coder is that it can be more complex to set up and run than simpler cloud IDE solutions, particularly for smaller teams that don’t have strong Kubernetes or platform engineering experience. Because it’s highly customizable and infrastructure-focused, organizations may need to spend significant time configuring things like networking, authentication, workspace templates, storage, and security policies correctly.

Another challenge is the operational overhead that comes with running self-hosted development environments. Teams are responsible for maintaining the underlying infrastructure, monitoring resource usage, managing upgrades, and troubleshooting performance or reliability issues as they come up. The flexibility and control are major strengths, but they also bring additional responsibility.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coder addresses the pain of inconsistent, hard-to-manage developer environments by offering standardized, reproducible workspaces that run securely on centralized infrastructure. This helps reduce onboarding time, cuts down on “works on my machine” problems, and makes it easier for teams to keep tooling and dependencies consistent across projects.

It also tackles the security and governance challenges that come with local development by keeping source code and development workloads inside controlled cloud or Kubernetes environments. For me, that translates into better collaboration, simpler environment management, and a strong fit with DevOps and GitOps workflows built around automation, Infrastructure as Code, and scalable cloud-native platforms.

Efficient Development in Browser with Secure AI Integration By Coder

    Reviewed on May 08, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I am happt to use Coder and run my entire development setup inside a browser, which is great because I don't have to worry about my laptop sounding like a jet engine when running heavy tasks. It's awesome because I can spin up a workspace with exactly the right amount of RAM and CPU for any project I'm tackling, and I can easily switch between my office desktop, tablet, or even a coffee shop without losing my place. I like how I can delegate the boring stuff like writing unit tests or boilerplate to a background process while focusing on the architecture. I also appreciate that my terminal sessions and open files stay exactly where I left them, even if my machine restarts or my internet disconnects. It automatically saves my progress and edits, so I can just pick up where I left off. The new AI gateway and agent firewall features are great because they allow us to securely manage our AI coding assistant without worrying about internal code leaking, which was a huge hurdle before. The installation process has been simplified recently, so I didn't have to spend hours fighting with configuration files to get my environment running.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface is starting to feel a bit busy now that they added so many AI and governance tools into their sidebars. Sometimes it takes an extra click or two to find basic workspace settings that used to be right on the front page. I wish there was a minimalist mode for when I just want to write code without seeing all the enterprise monitoring stats.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder to run my entire development setup in a browser, freeing me from hardware constraints and allowing flexibility in work locations. It securely manages AI coding assistant access, preventing code leaks, which was a huge hurdle before.

Smooth coding platform that helps keep projects moving fast

    Reviewed on May 07, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I like how simple it is to create and manage development environments without spending too much time on setup. It makes remote development feel smoother and more organized. The performance has been stable for my daily work and it is helpful when collaborating with different team members on projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some advanced configuration settings can be confusing at first.
Resource usage can increase quickly when running multiple environments together.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before using it our development environments were inconsistent and onboarding took too much time. Now developers can start working much faster with preconfigured workspaces. It improved productivity and reduced setup related issues across projects.
